Our community is blessed with great Christian camping opportunities for youth, and we want to help make it possible for local families to experience God’s presence in a natural setting.  To do this, we are offering camperships for Cook County residents to send their kids to camp.   For 2023, we are funding camperships for:

Wilderness Canoe Base, a family-based Lutheran camp on Seagull Lake

Cathedral of the Pines, Mount Olivet Lutheran Church’s camp on Caribou Lake

Camp Menogyn, a YMCA wilderness camp on the Gunflint Trail

Coldwater Foundation, a wilderness adventure camp based on Mink Lake

Camps Vermilion and Hiawatha, ELCA youth camps in the Cook and Grand Rapids areas

We’re in the process of getting up to speed with this new program … but we’ll work with you to find a camp that suits your needs for the summer of 2023!   How does this work?  Simple!  We invite you to check out these camps online.  When you find a camp that works for your family, fill out the required forms and then contact Pastor Tom.  Our church will write a check to the camp in your child’s name up to $750 per child per year.

What’s the catch?  Well … there isn’t one.  We want youth and young adults to have a Christian camp experience whether or not one is a member of our church.  Many years ago Mathilda [Billie] Peterson gifted a parcel of land to our congregation.  The proceeds from her generous gift now make up the Billie Peterson Campership Fund.   Our intent is to honor her legacy by sending local youth to camps regardless of their faith background.

If you have questions, please contact me at 218.370.9491 or lutchurch@boreal.org  I’ll be happy to help you find a camp that works for your family!

In Christ, Pastor Tom Murray
